John Allison/Monkhouse is proud to be an Australian owned family company with over 140 years of experience in service and care. As a sixth generation family business, we are committed to helping, supporting and providing individualised and caring funeral services to clients, as well as to the community in general.
Our reputation also extends overseas with our involvement in the repatriation of Australia’s Unknown Soldier in 1993. Significantly, in 2005 we were the only Australian funeral firm involved in repatriations of deceased persons from Thailand following the Boxing Day Tsunami.

Unique hearse options
In addition to our modern fleet of hearses, John Allison/Monkhouse offers two other types of hearses for you to choose from:
1926 Rolls Royce Hearse
The ‘Rolls’ hearse provides an excellent opportunity for families to avail themselves of an additional option to make the funeral truly unique and reminiscent of genteel times past.
Unique Pagoda Hearse
John Allison/Monkhouse Funeral Directors are proud to announce that they are now able to offer clients the use of a specialty Pagoda Hearse.
Dignified mortuary care
Professional embalming has been in use for over one hundred years in Australia and is practiced in order to provide the deceased with the highest level of dignity and respect. The embalming process involves chemical treatment in order to sanitise and preserve the body for presentation and final disposition. Our embalmers are qualified members of the Australian Institute of Embalming; our mortuary manager Kevin Reardon is the Deputy President of the AIE. Depending on religious or cultural practices embalming will need to be authorised by the bereaved family.
Memorialisation
Our in-house stonemason, Stan, is a fully qualified stonemason (Reg. 49762101) and comes from a background with over four generations of experience in Memorials.
